Domestic-violence-victim-left-disfigured-after-jealous-ex-bit-her-is-entering-beauty-pageant

Chanttelle and Rhys before the attack

A woman was left with a facial disfigurement after her jealous partner bit her in a brutal domestic attack, but she’s refusing to let it ruin her chances of beauty pageant victory.

And she doesn’t want the sympathy vote either, thank you very much.
Chanttelle Ward, 20, had always dreamed of becoming a model but thought her chances were ruined forever when her ex Rhys Culley, 23, sank his teeth into her.
The incident happened after an argument over Facebook, when Ms Ward was scared and tried to call the police but Culley snatched her phone.

Ms Ward was left with permanent scarring after the attack

He then launched a violent attack which lasted 30 minutes before biting her lip when she

refused to kiss him.

Culley was found guilty of wounding with intent at Newcastle Crown Court last year and

received an eight year jail sentence.

At first Ms Ward – from South Shields – was insecure about the scars on her mouth, but

quickly

used them to motivate her to show other victims of domestic abuse that the past doesn’t have

to shape your future.

She’s now through to the final of Miss GB North East

Ms Ward has always wanted to become a model

She said: ‘I don’t want a sympathy vote but I want to prove it hasn’t ruined my life. I want to show other girls that have been in the same position to be strong.
‘People think that in order to be a model you have to be really thin, or have a perfect face.
‘I feel like I have demonstrated that this is not the case.’

Ms Ward is now entering a beauty pageant
If she wins the pageant she will represent the North East area in the Miss Great Britain grand finale in September.
Ms Ward added: ‘It would mean the absolute world to me if I won. I did not think I would get this far.
‘I want to let everyone know I am getting on with my life. I have not let this destroy me.
